Welcome to the August edition of our newsletter. Did you miss us in July? Typically the business tempo here in Dubai is a little slower over the summer months. Whilst it was a little bit less than normal, I’m very pleased to say that more e-learning enquiries have continued to trickle in.

I did manage some time away with the family which was brilliant (see my product of the month below!) and now I’m excited for what the rest of the year brings. The best thing about running a 100% remote company, besides all our team loving it, is that I can do most of what I need to do with just my iPad. Whilst I can’t meet clients face-to-face, I’m able to basically do everything else with all the tools our company uses. You should consider it :)

I appreciate that as a new company it can be a real rollercoaster. Sometimes it’s quiet, sometimes it’s manic. I think as a business matures the ‘humps’ tend to level out a little, and as we approach our fourth year in operation I’m starting to sense this. Sure things are still ‘lumpy’, but we have a more predictable flow of ongoing projects, developments and potential deals. I must say I like it!

Work 2.0

I’m thrilled to say that Capytech will be exhibiting for the first time in Dubai this October. We will be at the Work 2.0 Conference (formerly the Training and Development Show) which is running October 3-4 at Le Meridian Conference Centre, Dubai.

I attended the show last year, and figured it was the most relevant one for us. I was also impressed by the proactiveness of Ben Carter who was looking after attendees. Even though I wasn’t exhibiting, he took the time to introduce me to people and get the most out of the show. Ben’s hands on approach has continued as we signed on for the show this year.

We’re really looking forward to attending, and we’ve got some exciting ideas for our stand. If you’ve got any suggestions for how to maximise our time there, this conference novice would love to hear them!

Click the image above to register and attend, or let me know if you want a VIP pass to come along. I’m sure we can figure something out (right Ben?!).

How to Effectively Storyboard Your E-Learning
Using storyboards can be a very effective way to layout what your e-learning module will achieve. Depending on the client, we use storyboards or rapid prototyping (see next article) to help meet our client's expectations.

What is Rapid Prototyping in E-learning?
I really love rapid prototyping as it fits with my mantra of release early and often. Using this method we can get a product into the hands of our clients fast, and usually speed up the entire development process.

The Power of Scenarios in E-Learning
We’ve been doing a lot of work on scenarios of late. This is one of the areas that e-learning can excel with multi-branch scenarios providing customised input to students. Very effective!

5 REASONS WHY MOBILE IS KEY IN CORPORATE TRAINING

If you’ve not embraced mobile yet, you’re well behind the curve! If you’re still developing in flash - shame on you!! This article gives even more reasons why mobile should be part of your long term strategy.

OIL? WHAT OIL? THINK STARTUP IN THE GULF!

I love the idea that entrepreneurs will drive the region forward. Whilst there are a number great big success stories here (Careem/Souq), it’s still a challenging environment for a bootstrapped company. High cost of living, $5000+ for trade license with required office space extra - all make for high barriers to entry. What can be done?

HOW DUBAI'S COFFE ENTREPRENEURS ARE SUPPORTING SUSTAINABLE FARMING

I always start my day with a cup of bulletproof coffee. To do this well, you need great coffee beans, and so I’ve always gone to RAW Coffee. They home deliver at no charge (and if you order early enough, you’ll get your coffee a couple hours later!). The coffee is superb, and I also recommend visiting their coffee shop in Al Quoz - superb flat whites!

HENTY COPILOT

This month’s pick is a bit different to what I’ve covered in the past which has been tech related. Another one of my passions is travel, and when I discovered the Henty CoPilot it was a match made in heaven.

I love travelling lightly, carry on only. This can particularly be a challenge if you want to bring business clothes as you’ll need to have them ironed/dry cleaned on arrival. Well not any more!

The co-pilot is carry on size and has a patented rolling system to ensure your clothes remain crease free. It’s also superbly organised with pockets in all the right places and slots for your laptop etc. You can also choose what internal bag you want (I got the inner tube, so I can take it on the dive boat with me).

If this all wasn’t enough, the company was co-founded by a mate of mine from uni, Jeremy Grey. Not only do I love the product, but I love supporting fellow entrepreneurs and mates who are undergoing a similar journey to myself.

Check it out here, and tell them Damo sent you!
